LA Hoop Showdown Powered by Liftoff Sports Final Recap

The LA Hoops Showdown Powered by Liftoff Sports or “Hooping in the Hood” as some of the participants labeled it, was an event of stellar play and success on the hardwood.  George Washington High School was the the setting and South Central LA… the City.  This event reminded us of the LA City Section glory days of Crenshaw, Washington, Manual Arts and Fremont High School Basketball.   We showed up not knowing what to expect, but in the words of LA Icon, Ice Cube…it being in South Central LA, “I gotta say, today it was a good day!”

Champions.

  • 11u BFT: Led by do-it-all tournament MOP, Devin Tillis, big man, John Thomas Tan and combo guard, Vaughn Flowers, the #16 ranked BFT Team dominated the 11u division against some tough competition and are likely to move-up in the rankings.

  • 12u Burbank Raptors Black: Led by Co-MOPs DL Banks and Tyrese Willis, the #24 ranked Raptors dominated the division by  using their high pressure defense to take teams out of their comfort zone.  Coach Rife took on the WCE challenge and proved their team is worthy of a Top 20 ranking.

  • 13u Liftoff Elite: The Liftoff team came in as a team in our Top 40.  Playing on their home court, they played well enough to be recognized as an Honorable Mention team that has the potential to make some noise as the season progresses.

  • 14u SCV Playmakers: Simply the most well coached 14u team on the circuit.  They don’t pass the eyeball test.  However, once they get on the court, they play beautiful basketball.  On offense, they move without the ball, pass well, and will knock down the 3 if the defense steps in to help.  On defense, they move and slide their feet and have active hands.  This is definitely a special group of ballers.  Look for them to move up in the updated rankings.

Team Sportsmanship Award
