Open Gym Halloween Classic Powered by WCE25 Final Recap

The Open Gym Halloween Classic Powered by WCE25 featured 65 squads in search of the Championship Candy, but in the end, only 7 squads took home candy and awards for best original costume, “Beasts!”  The Halloween Classic was so scary good, that we came away labeling it a “Monster Smash!”

Champions.

  • 9u 323 Hoops Academy: Led by MOP Point Guard, Wyatt Bimat-Townsend, the soon to be #15 ranked 323 Hoops Academy team defeated the soon to be #16 Ranked Baseline-to-Baseline 17-11 in the Championship game.  The team finished with a 4-0 record.  Congrats!

  • 10u Prodigy Baseline Basketball Club: The Glendora based club went 4-0 and beat 2 WCE25 Honorable Mentioned squads along the way.  Congrats to Coach Peters (love your enthusiasm)!

  • 11u Open Gym: The Open Gym squad looked comfortable balling on their home court.  Although the team lost to Baseline-to-Baseline in Saturday pool play, the team redeemed itself on Sunday by beating the same Baseline-to-Baseline team 35-33.  The team was excited to earn its first championship title as a team.

  • 12u RC Bulls: The RC Bulls were one of the more impressive squads at the Halloween Classic.  They are not only bigger than most of their opponents, but they now appear to be jelling into a team.  They also showed they can shoot from the perimeter as it was the difference maker in their games against Elite 25 teams, Riverside Matrix and Climate Storm. Coach Austin is so impressed with his squad, that he believes they can be the Top WCE25 team by end of year.

  • 13u Beast Up: This was the second time in the past month we took in a Beast Up Game and it now appears obvious they are a Top 10 team.  They have three talented ballers led by MOP 6’1 “Do-It-All” Wing Harrison Butler.  We hope they can stick together because they have a chance to be good.

  • 14u I10 Celtics Black: The I10 Celtics Black team was the second most impressive team of the event.  Myles Franklin and a slew of ballers can run, shoot, and are well coached .  They will make their debut in Top 15 this coming week, but definitely have the potential to be a Top 10 team.

  • High School: Newport Lightning

Team Sportsmanship Awards

  • Baseline-to-Baseline 14u – After losing in Sudden Death, the team reconvenes (see pic below).
