Open Gym WCE25 #theClassic Recap

On the weekend of October 26-27, 70 teams from the entire Southern California spread across 13 divisions descended on the American Sports Center in Anaheim for the 2nd Annual Open Gym/ WCE25 #theClassic. Aside from the team results having an impact on the upcoming rankings, individual players were doing their best to showcase their talent in hopes of garnering an invite to the 1st Annual BALLISLIFE All-American Camp on November 30 to December 1.

This past weekend’s #theClassic Champions were as follows:

8u/9u Division Champions: Open Gym 9u

MVP: Jaden Goodall (Open Gym 9u)

The 8u/9u Division featured 5 teams (SGV Blue, Open Gym Tiger, Proskills, Dominators Grey, and Corona Vipers).  The 9u Open Gym went 5-0 and defeated a tough Corona Vipers 8u team that will be moving up in the upcoming 8u rankings. Congrats Open Gym!

8u/9u Runner-Up: Corona Vipers

10u Division Champions: Pacific Elite

The 10u Division featured 4 teams (#5 Pacific Elite, #6 SGV Blue, NLBC, Triple Threat).  Pacific Elite and SGV Blue both took care of business on Saturday and went into Championship Sunday looking to solidify their Top 6 ranking.  Both teams showed why they are Top 6 squads in the Championship game by displaying a well rounded game, but Pacific Elite still proved to be a tad better.  The improved Pacific Elite squad now has its eyes set on the Top 4 teams ahead of them and it seems that it is only a matter of time if they continue on this trajectory. Congrats Pacific Elite 10u!

Note: #4 SCV Playmakers 10u won the Silver Division.

MVP: Adam Hinton (Pacific Elite)

10u Runner-Up: SGV Blue

11u Silver Division Champions: SCV Playmakers 10u

11u Silver MVP:  Jared Sow

11u Silver Runner-Up: Dominators

11u Elite Division Champions: Team Dream

The 11u Elite Division featured 4 teams ( #9 Team Dream, #11 LA Bobcats, #23 ESP Stars, and Open Gym). The three ranked teams all proved worthy of their ranking by playing high-level competitive basketball that included some close games.  The game between ESP Stars and LA Bobcats came down to the wire, with the LA Bobcats surviving.  In the final, the Most Improved Team of the Season, Team Dream, was just too much for the LA Bobcats as they pulled away in the 2nd Half.  We expect Team Dream to move into the Top 5 in the upcoming rankings and also expect LA Bobcats and ESP Stars to move up.  Congrats Team Dream11u!

11u Elite MVP: Xavier Williams (Team Dream)

11u Elite Runner-Up: LA Bobcats

12u Silver Division Champions: SGV Blue 11u

12u Elite Division Champions: Manhattan Beach Spartans

The 12u Elite Division featured 4 teams (#28 Manhattan Beach Spartans, #47 OC Rain, Uptempo and MOC,).  The Manhattan Beach Spartans played to the difference of their ranking and beat an up and coming UpTempo team in the Championship game  57-47.  Expect the Runner-Up Uptempo team to crack the Top 50 in the upcoming rankings.  Congrats Manhattan Beach Spartans 12u!

MVP: Max McCalla (Manhattan Beach Spartans 12u)

12u Elite Runner-Up:  Team Uptempo 12u

13u Silver Division Champions: City Stars

MVP: Jacob Ray (City Stars 13u)

13u Silver Runner-Up: Open Gym

13u Elite Division Champions: Aim High

The 13u Elite Division featured 4 teams (#29 Invitation Only, #49 UpTempo, Aim High, and the Eastvale Warriors).  Aim High came looking for some WCE25 Ranking Respect and left with it and much more.  The AIM High squad defeated #29 Invitation Only in the Final and will be ranked in the Top 20 in the upcoming rankings as they make their way to the Global CBA League in December. Invitation Only continues to play well and will also move up a few spots.  Expect Eastvale Warriors to also make their debut in the Top 50.  Congrats Aim High13u!

MVP: Amir Henry (Aim High 13u)

13u Elite Runner-Up: Invitation Only

14u Bronze Division Champions: South Coast

MVP: Austin Mena  (South Coast 14u)

14u Silver Runner-Up: JSK

14u Sliver Division Champions: Triple Threat

MVP: Quentin Watts  (Triple Threat)

14u Silver Runner-Up: Wolfpack

14u Elite Division Champions: RC Bulls

The 14u Elite Division featured 8 teams, but in the end, only the RC Bulls would be the team we remember.  We had been hearing whispers of their recent win over Top 5 OC Vision, but we needed to see it in-person.  The RC Bulls fans had been asking for respect and Coach Austin knew the only way to ensure WCE25 would be there to watch them, was to participate in #theClassic. Participating is one thing, beating #2 Surf City in the Championship Game puts them at a higher level.  Expect the RC Bulls to make their Top 5 debut in the upcoming rankings release.  Congrats RC Bulls14u!

– The RC Bulls squad is comprised of their 13u/14u squads

– Earl Watson Pangos Elite 14u also made its debut in the Varsity Division and earned a Top 5 Ranking!

MVP: Darius Brown (RC Bulls 14u)

14u Elite Runner-Up: Surf City

JV Champions: 323 Hoops

Varsity Champions: YL Pumas
