WCE25’s Top 10 Scary Good from Halloween Classic

1. 9u Competition Heats Up – #21 Ranked Open Gym Premier Black defeated #3 Ranked Pro Skills 27-25 in Pool Play.   The victory helped paved the way for them to play SGV Blue in the Championship game and likely vault them into our Top 15 WCE25 Rankings.  However, as impressive as the Open Gym Premier Black team may have been, the SGV Blue team looked much improved.  SGV Blue, led by 9u Gold MVP, Adrian Huang, went 4-0 and play themselves into a Top 5 WCE25 Ranking.

2 & 3. Open Gym Premier Black 11u defeats San Diego Bulldogs 37-35 on a buzzer beater  – The San Diego Bulldogs and Open Gym Premier Black 11u teams gave us quite a nice trick or treat.  First, the treat.  San Diego Bulldogs, Kyle Walker’s buzzer tying jumper sent the game into OT.  Then, the trick. With 8.2 seconds left in OT, the San Diego Bulldogs tied the game at 35 with a free-throw that appeared to give his team another late tying rally.  However, Open Gym Premier Black’s, Matt Ormayer received the ball with two seconds left and hit the game winning jumper.  The jumper was caught on video on our WCE25 Instagram account.  Congrats to both teams and players for providing us with some exciting moments.

Matt Ormayer (photobombed by his Open Gym Premier Black Team) hit game winning jumper to defeat San Diego Bulldogs.  Matt earned invite to upcoming Elite 32 Camp on November 29-30.

4. 2022 Christian Moore   (Dominators) – The 5th Grade Ballislife Camp  MVP continues to improve and shine on the court.  The young pup dominated the paint over the weekend and is showing signs of an improved skill-set at the 3 position.  He has also made strides in becoming a more consistent high energy and competitive player.  We look forward to seeing young Christian defend his Camp MVP title at the 2015 Ballislife Junior All-American Camp on July 31-August 2.

5. 2021 Barry “Money” Wids (ProSkills) – Barry is a powerful combo-guard who physically dominated his competitors.  He showed that he can bully his way to the basket while also having a great ability to score on a high level from the perimeter. The young Barry earned an invite to compete in the Elite 32 Camp this November for his play at the Halloween Classic.

6. Open Gym Premier Platinum is among the 2019 elite –  Two weeks after upsetting the Gamepoint Wildcats en route to a semifinal appearance in the SGV Aloha Challenge, Open Gym’s flagship youth team was back at it, advancing to the finals of the host tournament. The team can beat you in the paint and on the perimeter, but the oog that makes the team go is the versatile Jose Rocha, one of the smartest basketball players in Southern California.(Written by Aaron Burgin of Full Times Hoops.  Follow him on Twitter @FullTimesHoops1)

7.  NGA Stars send message  –  The highest ranked 2019 crew on hand at the Halloween Classic were stunned in pool play by a game Open Gym Premier Elite team, but rather than fold up tent, the NGA Stars got stronger on Day 2, punctuating its championship run with a 60-42 victory over Open Gym Premier Platinum. MVP Jeremy Davis had a great run in leading his team to a Halloween Classic Championship that included a game winning 3 to lift his team over Top 30 CBC.

8. 2021 Jeremiah Paul (Rising Stars of America) Rises to the Top –  Jeremiah earned 12u Gold MVP honors for leading his team to a Championship.  The lanky athletic post proved that he is stronger and more physical than he appears.  He also showed good hands and was an excellent area rebounder on both ends.

9. 2021 Marco Notarainni (San Diego 1 on 1) – The San Diego native hit a game winning buzzer beater versus Earl Watson Elite that caused a roar across all 28 ASC courts.  Marco was invited to compete at the Elite 32 Camp this November.

10. Gamepoint Wildcats, Earl Watson Elite Silver, and RC Bulls have success playing up – Three of the top 14u teams in the gym did not play in the 14u bracket. The powerful Earl Watson Elite 14u Silver and RC Bulls Black teams were two of the top teams in the tournament’s 16u DIvision, with the Bulls delivering a message by beating Earl Watson during pool play. The Gamepoint Wildcats, meanwhile, captured the 15u title with a win over the CYBC Panthers, a team hailing all the way from Calgary, AB.(Written by Aaron Burgin of Full Times Hoops.  Follow him on Twitter @FullTimesHoops1)
