Top Gun San Diego Spring Open Recap

Top Gun Spring Open March 28-29, 2015

Top Gun Spring Open March 28-29, 2015

The San Diego Top Gun Spring Open closed out the 2nd Quarter of the WCE25 middle school season for the 2nd straight year.  The event, hosted by Top Gun, played host to 90 middle school team and 30 HS teams from across Arizona, Los Angeles, Nevada, Norcal, and San Diego. The San Diego event has quickly become one of the top events on the WCE25 circuit and plays a major role in the WCE25 rankings that culminate on July 3-5 at the WCE25 Championship Event –  http://opengympremier.com/services/tournaments/championship).

Our final impressions: The 2019 SGV Blue team are so well coached that they can compete at a high level even without having a player over 6 feet. The Mountain House Wolverines 2020 team were the most impressive team and most likely to move up highest in their ranking.  Its too bad we didn’t get to see them play SD Select (who played up). San Diego based, 2021 High Intensity, was the sleeper that won it all  It will be interesting to see if they can continue to improve and maintain their pretty talented team.  The 5th Grade Froggs have been tweeting about how much they deserve that #1 WCE25 ranking. After watching them beat a very good SD Seals Team in the championship game, its hard not to agree with their claim. It took 3 OTs for the 4th Grade LN Bruins to defeat the Froggs in the Gold Championship game. Luckily for us, we got to watch more of LN Bruins talented guard, Zach Smail aka “Lil Pistol Pete.”  3rd Grade San Diego Southbay Show finished 2014 as the #1 team.  Although it has been as easy for them this season, the SD Southbay Show team proved its still a team that will contend for that #1 Ranking come July. its   We want to thank the Top Gun staff for yet another solid event that will only get bigger and better.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the next Top Gun Event, the San Diego Invitational on June 27-28, 2015  – https://www.topgunbball.com/shop/summer-sd-invitational/ .
